Sorry!!!!! (And a New Schedule)

HI-It's Me.  

Sorry. Long time no see. But who cares about that? Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Kwanzaa! HAPPY NEW YEAR! 

I've decided from now on I will have a schedule: I will post every Friday, or at least try to. And it won't be a rushed post. Sorry, all you busy business people. It will be a regular-sized post, filled with humor. Or do you want a different size? Big Mac? Quarter Pounder? Cheesebur-okay, I'd better stop. Um...I'm missing something. Maybe you should tell me. I'll see if you're paying attention. Here is the not-so-daily poll:

What is your favourite thing to do during the holidays?

1. Go caroling. "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear," right? That quote is from Elf.

2. Lie on the couch and binge-watch Christmas movies. That's a biggie for me. I love to see cheesy Christmas movies. "Fah who for-aze, dah who dor-aze!" 

3. Ice skating. That's not really big for me. The last time I went skating was 4 years ago! 

4. Celebrate with family. This is my choice. I just love the holiday atmosphere. It's so fun to open gifts next to an open fire, stuffing your face with food, laughing and talking.

I'm So Sorry

I'm So Sorry, Everyone

I know. Last time I posted was April 28th. But don't worry! I'm going to try to update my blog weekly, now. Before, I didn't have a blog schedule. Because I was too busy with my own schedule! A girl has plans, y'know! Last week, I went to a wedding and a picnic party! And then my car got a flat tire!! (So I had dinner at 8:00.) 

Enough with my news. NEXT poll: what is your favourite summer activity?

A) going to the beach

B) chilling out in the house with the A.C. on

C) playing sports/getting active (soccer, badminton, etc.)

D) lying in a hammock 

I think mine is A) going to the beach. That way you can get active, lie down, and have fun in the sun! I say that the best way of enjoying the summer is getting out in the heat! I mean, we wait ALL YEAR to enjoy summer then lock ourselves in our houses! Now's the time to enjoy summer and have fun! 

What have you been doing? Going traveling or chilling out at home? The second one is TOTALLY me. I've been flying kites, going to parties, and playing at the park with my bro! 

This blog wouldn't be Layla's Picks if it didn't have 'picks.' So, here's my opinion on favourite summer fruit is WATERMELON! Always have some slices of juicy red watermelon! This fruit is VERY sweet and is really healthy! A REALLY GOOD treat to have when you're really hot, but can't find some sweet ice cream. 

I just read an older post of mine called OMG. It's 8:12 and I'm Typing My Butt Off. In that post, I did an interview with Little Bro. I just realized I could do an interview NOW and compare it to the older one.

Do you read magazines? (This post is kinda going to sound like an ad.)

If you do, then you’ll probably like this post because it is ALL about magazines! Actually, to be a little more specific, it’s about my magazine. I know you’re probably thinking, ‘how does this girl do this much stuff? How does she have time to do all this stuff?’ There’s your answer for why it’s sometimes weeks before I blog again. I’m doing other stuff!  Take a chill pill, people.

So, this post is about my magazine. I like to design, y’know. I’m more of an artsy person. So, this magazine is about fashion. I did the whole magazine and it’s called ‘LoVe’s.’ That’s my fashion brand. And again, you’re thinking, ‘she has a FASHION brand?!!’ No, I don’t have a fashion brand. That’s my dream. To become a writer, designer, singer, or actress. I’m working on the stage fright.

Before I begin talking about magazines, I will do my daily poll. Well, not daily, because I’m inconsistent with my posts now. Before, I did a post like, every day. Now, I just do my own thing. Hey, I have my own schedule!

OK guys, I am all crazy now because I just got back from gym and it’s been a crazy day. I haven’t blogged in like, a few weeks now. When’s the last time I blogged??? I think maybe-hold on, you should answer because you’re supposed to be paying attention to when I’m blogging. March 4! That’s the LAST time! So it’s been 17 whole days (nearly 3 weeks) since the last time I blogged. There’s a problem here people! OK! So, I haven’t done my poll yet. It’s kinda like a ‘thing’ now. I write a blog, you read it. I do a poll, you answer. Wait, since the blog is called ‘Layla’s Picks’, then I guess I have to show you my ‘picks’. So, here is a design (or a couple) from my FAVOURITE fashion illustrator, Hayden Williams! And guess what? He used to have a blog on Blogspot too! So now we’re virtually connected, even though I have NO idea of what ‘virtually’ means. Curse the fancy words of the world!

CARNAVAL TIME: Anyways, I'm here to talk about Carnaval. We had it two weeks ago. 

Carnaval is basically a French carnival. It lasts for....I don't know, but at school, it 

lasts for five days, four days, actually because of Family Day cutting it off a day. 

At our school, there's themes. One for each day. First up is: 

  Crazy Hat/Hair Day

Then : Pink Shirt Day.

The last day of Carnaval is Pajama Day.

Calculations That Will Tell You How Smart I Am

Yeah, That's Right!

OK, so I was bored. I got the idea while trying to fall asleep. I thought, 'hmm..I wonder how many seconds are in 12 hours?' So, I decided to calculate that when I woke up.

There are:

43,200 seconds in 12 hours. How did I get that? Well, multiply 60 (number of seconds in 1 min.) by 60 (number of minutes in an hour). 60 x 60=3, 600. 3, 600 x 12 hrs =43,200.

86,400 seconds in 24 hours, which is a day.  How did I get that? Multiply 43, 200 by 2, which is 86, 400. Or double 43, 200. 

720 minutes in 12 hours. How did I get that? 6o minutes in an hour x 12 hours= 720.

1,440 minutes in 24 hours. How did I get that? Again, same as with the seconds. Double the first number. 720 + 720=1440. 

Now say, "THANKS, LAYLA!!!" Why did you do that? Because Layla just told you some COOL facts you can now say to make you seem smarter! That's an invitation to read this blog! You'll have a cheat sheet to being smarter!

I'd like chocolate hearts-cute and yummy! Anyways, in case you don't know the story, I'll tell you. 

St. Valentine was a Roman priest in the time when there was an emperor called Claudias who persecuted the church at that time. Claudias also had a command that would not let young people marry. This was because of the assumption that unmarried soldiers fought better than married soldiers because married soldiers might be afraid of what might happen to them/their families if they died. 

St. Valentine was all about the idea of encouraging the people to marry within the Christian church. He secretly helped them marry because of the command. 

Valentine was eventually caught, imprisoned, and tortured for performing marriage ceremonies against the command of the emperor. One of the men to judge him in line with the Roman law at that time was a man called, Asterius, whose daughter was blind. 

St. Valentine was supposed to have prayed with and healed her with such an astonishing effect that Asterius became Christian as a result. 

Valentine was sentenced to death all because of his stand for Christian marriage. The story goes that the last words he wrote were in a note to Asterius' daughter. He inspired today's romantic letters by signing it, 'from your Valentine'. 

Valentine has come to be known as the saint of love.
